Preface to Problems and Miracles

The following poems

exhibit the indisputable

evidence of an emerging

poet who, fortunately,

it is hoped, has been

discovered enough near

the beginning of his career

that we may help protect him

from those awful others.

It is required by us that he

reject their praises. We are

counting on him staying put,

at work, alone in his closet.

He likes the dark places,

knows it is where the good

stuff courses. And we are

glad he has already spared

us some, and so wagered us,

lucky.
